Kara Walker

Kara Walker is an artist whose work moves through drawing, installation, sculpture, film, and public projects while looking hard at race, gender, sexuality, violence, and American history. Born in Stockton, California and raised in Atlanta, she studied at the Atlanta College of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design. She received a MacArthur Foundation award in 1997 and became a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2012.
